High Ropes Course Supervisor & Rescue Training

Day 1 — Morning
  1. Introduction
  • Intro of participants and evaluation of current skill level.
  • Explore participants' expectations of the training.
  • Brief overview of topics to be covered.
  • Review of Full Value Contract/Challenge by Choice.
  • Review of environmental and human hazards.
  • Harnessing of participants.
  • Equipment review/belay systems and review, rescue bag.
  • Discussion of our standards and the importance of each company setting standards for procedures and safety.
  • Developing an "eye for trouble," anticipate problems before they happen.
  • The dynamic forces of a ropes course in action (processed throughout training).
  1. Course Set-up
  • Discussion of set-up standards.
  • Use of lobster claws and self-belay.
  • Use of pulleys, anchors, etc.
  • Zip set-up.
Day 1 — Afternoon and Day 2 — Morning
  1. Mock Rescues
  • Each participant is given a scenario that they are to enact.
  • Each rescue will be processed after it is competed.
  • There will be a person in charge of each rescue and participants will take turns doing so.
    1. Climber freezes on element, refuses to come down.
    2. Instructor hurt (unconscious) while setting up course.
    3. Belayers clothing gets caught in belay.
    4. Instructor notices that participant's harness is very loose when on an element.
    5. Participant's hair/clothing caught in figure-8 while repelling.
    6. Participant gets tangled up in belay/gets foot caught while descending.
Day 2 — Afternoon

    1. Zip Line Rescue
  1. Equipment and Course Inspection Review
  2. Alternative Belay Systems (optional)
  3. Evaluation
